  • Année préparatoire. A one-year general program (24 credits, program 1-955-4-1, Faculte des arts et des sciences) that UdeM (Université de Montréal) compares to a North American freshman year. It is the main route into UdeM bachelors for a student with a high school diploma from another province, including Ontario Grade 12. Three orientations: sciences, social sciences, arts and letters. Students then apply a second time to the bachelor they want; for a Fall start they must have passed at least 24 credits by the end of the Winter term. Who: Holders of a 12-year high school diploma from a Canadian province other than Quebec (for Ontario: an OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma) with 6 Grade 12 U or M courses including English or French), Quebec high school graduates out of school for at least 4 years, and holders of a foreign pre-university diploma not equivalent to the DEC (diplôme d'études collégiales, the Quebec college diploma). Applicants may be asked to write admission tests and must meet the French requirement.
  • ACCÈS-FAC. An individualised short program (12 to 24 credits, evenings and weekends) at the Faculte de l'apprentissage continu for adults who want to start university but do not meet the admission conditions of the Faculty's certificates. It teaches university study skills, writing and critical analysis and lets students explore fields. Who: People with at least three years of work experience after finishing high school; the experience is judged against the conditions of the program they aim for. An interview or admission tests may be required.
  • Admission des membres des communautés autochtones (autodéclaration). First Nations, Inuit and Metis applicants from Canada can self-declare so that their application to certain programs with limited places is assessed both in the regular process and in a category with places set aside, using criteria beyond grades (interviews or other steps, depending on the program). Who: First Nations (registered under the Indian Act, or recognised by their band council), Inuit registered with one of four Inuit beneficiary registries, and Metis registered with a Metis registry recognised by the Metis National Council (including the Metis Nation of Ontario). The self-declaration form is in the Student Centre after applying, due within 10 days, with documents proving status.
  • Admission des membres des communautés noires (autodéclaration). Members of Canada's Black communities can self-declare so that their application to certain programs with limited places is assessed both in the regular process and in a category with places set aside, using criteria beyond grades (interviews may be held). Who: Applicants from Canada who are members of Black communities; Canadian citizenship or permanent residence by the application deadline is required in the program conditions read (architecture, law, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, nutrition).
  • Programme intensif de francisation universitaire. An intensive French program for future UdeM (Université de Montréal) students who are not francophone, taking them from B1 to the B2 level most UdeM programs require. Passing it replaces a French test for admission if it was passed in the 24 months before the start of studies. Who: Future students who can show French at B1 level (the program page says B1.2, a TEF (Test d'évaluation de français, a French test) score of 350 or more) but not yet the B2 required.

What do UdeM graduates earn?

Statistics Canada does not publish pay by university, only by field for each province's graduates. Figures are for Quebec bachelor's graduates, the class of 2022 two years after and the class of 2019 five years after, in 2024 dollars.

FieldTwo years after (class of 2022)Five years after (class of 2019)
Math and physical sciences$67,700$84,300
Social sciences$55,900$69,500
Arts and humanities$45,200$56,100

What careers do UdeM programs lead to?

Two careers per field the school teaches, each with its pay, training and what the work is like.
