  • Annee preparatoire (scolarite preparatoire). A 30-credit upgrading year on campus over two sessions for students whose pre-university diploma totals 12 years of schooling, which includes an OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma). Five versions (science, humanities and social sciences, business administration, languages and literature, music) combine French (the Test de francais Laval-Montreal, with a grammar course below 60%), general courses such as GPL-0901 on studying in a North American francophone university, and the prerequisites of the chosen program (for science: calculus, mechanics, chemistry, biology and so on). Up to 6 credits can come from the program itself. Passing it is a condition for continuing in the program. Who: Graduates of 12-year high school systems, including Canadian provinces other than Quebec, admitted to a non-quota Laval bachelor's program; students aiming at a quota or limited-capacity program do the year in another program and then apply.
  • Candidate ou candidat adulte (adult applicant). Adults without a CEGEP (a Quebec public college) diploma can be admitted on the basis of their experience. The file review decides whether a preparatory program of make-up courses (general education, specific knowledge, French or program prerequisites) is needed; preparatory study is allowed in every program except quota and limited-capacity ones. Applicants send a CV (résumé), secondary and any postsecondary transcripts and a birth certificate. Who: Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 21 or older, holding a secondary diploma (or DEP, AENS or AEC) but no DEC (diplôme d'études collégiales, the Quebec college diploma), out of school for at least 2 years, and with no more than 11 university credits.
  • Places reservees aux membres des Premiers Peuples. Several quota programs keep one to three places, often outside the quota, for First Nations and Inuit applicants, some with a lower minimum cote R (22 or 27): architecture, criminology, law, physical education teaching, sport intervention, kinesiology, nutrition, psychoeducation, psychology, biomedical sciences, nursing, sexology, social work, public affairs and international relations, occupational therapy and physiotherapy. Applicants must self-identify in the application. Who: Holders of a college or university diploma who are both Quebec residents and members of the First Nations or Inuit in Quebec; so not open to Indigenous students from Ontario.

What do Laval graduates earn?

Statistics Canada does not publish pay by university, only by field for each province's graduates. Figures are for Quebec bachelor's graduates, the class of 2022 two years after and the class of 2019 five years after, in 2024 dollars.
