• Bidding a route by seniority

  Once you are a career carrier you bid on routes. Seniority gets you the one closest to home or easiest on the body.

• Moving to rural delivery

  Paid on an evaluated route system rather than strictly by the hour, which some carriers much prefer.

• Union roles

  Shop steward and branch officer positions, which lead into representing other carriers full time.

• Supervisor or postmaster

  The management route. Salaried, and it means leaving the union that protects you.
