A typical day

It depends entirely on the month. In planting and harvest you start before light and stop when the dew or the dark shuts you down, sixteen hours, seven days a week, for a few weeks. Livestock is the opposite: chores every single morning and night, all year, holidays included. Between those stretches you are fixing machinery, hauling grain, arguing with a parts counter, walking fields, and sitting at a kitchen table deciding what to plant and when to sell it.
