Crews and tickets that pay more

• Helitack

  Alberta's rapid-response crews of 4 or 8, flown to new fires by helicopter. Fitness test required.

• Hoist and parattack crews

  Alberta hoists 5-person crews out of aircraft. BC has parattack firefighters who parachute in. Both are selective.

• Unit crew

  20-person crews on the big sustained fires. Long deployments, lots of hours.

• Faller and heavy equipment tickets

  Certified fallers and dozer operators are paid more and work later into the year.
