A typical day on a fire

Up at 5am in a camp or a hotel. Briefing, then a truck or helicopter to the fire. The work is cutting fireline with saws and hand tools, running hose, and hunting hotspots with a bare hand in the ash. It is smoke, heat, bugs and 12 to 14 hour days. Back to camp, eat, sleep, repeat for up to 14 days. Between fires you train, fix gear, and wait.
