A typical day

6:30 a.m. rounds in the ICU (intensive care unit) and on the ward. 7:45 first case in the operating room (OR): a brain tumour under the microscope, 4 to 8 hours. Some days it is spine: two or three cases back to back. Clinic days bring new referrals and follow-ups. On call, a bleed or a head injury can mean an emergency craniotomy at 3 a.m., then a full day after.
