Insulin was discovered in Toronto

In 1921 and 1922, Frederick Banting and Charles Best, working in a University of Toronto lab with John Macleod and James Collip, isolated insulin and gave it to the first diabetic patient. Before that, type 1 diabetes was a death sentence. Banting and Macleod won the Nobel Prize in 1923.
