A typical shift

Check your truck: lights, cables, hooks, straps, fluid levels. Then you wait. A call comes from a motor club, an insurer, the police rotation or a repair shop. You drive out, size up the vehicle, hook it, secure it, and get off the road as fast as you safely can. Between calls you sit in the truck. Overnight shifts swing between four hours of nothing and three crashes in an hour.
