A typical day

On site by six or seven. You read the drawings, work out where the pipe runs have to go around ductwork and lights that are already in, and start hanging it. Most of the day is overhead: cutting and grooving pipe, lifting sections into hangers, threading heads in. Once a section is up you cap it and pressure test it, and you find the leak if it does not hold. Cold in winter, because the building has no walls yet. Service days are the opposite: three or four buildings, a checklist and a report at each.
