A typical day

Clinic most days: fifteen to twenty patients, each a half hour, some there for a routine check and some to hear scan results. Reviewing imaging and pathology before each one. Writing chemotherapy orders and checking blood counts before treatment can go ahead. A tumor board meeting where surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and oncologists argue out a plan together. Phone calls to insurers about a drug that costs more than a car. Then two or three conversations you will remember for years.
