A typical day

Open up, check what came back overnight, and get the desk covered. Then a mix: answering questions that range from a school project to a benefits form, running a story time or a class, ordering new material, and dealing with whatever is broken. Meetings about the budget or a program. Afternoons and evenings are the busiest in a public library because that is when people are free. Nearly every day involves helping someone who does not know how to ask for what they need.
