A typical day

Half the year it is a desk: pulling gauge records, cleaning data, running a model of how a basin responds to rain, writing the section of a report that says how likely a flood is. The other half is a truck. Drive to a stream, wade in with a flow meter, check the equipment in the gauge house, pull water samples into bottles for the lab, log it all before you lose daylight. After a big storm everything changes and somebody is asking you for numbers today.
