What the wage survey shows

The national median is $90,150 a year, and the bottom tenth start near $55,000. One important caveat: the federal survey has no health inspector line. It counts the job inside occupational health and safety specialists, which also covers industry safety officers in oil, chemicals and construction. Those pay more than a county health department does, so a working restaurant inspector usually sits in the lower half of this range.
