A typical day

Arrive, check cells that were growing overnight, start a long experiment early so it finishes before you leave. Middle of the day is bench work: pipetting, running gels, purifying proteins, feeding instruments. Afternoons go to analyzing yesterday's data and lab meetings where people pick your results apart. Plenty of experiments fail. You write down what happened and try again with one thing changed.
