A typical day

Mostly a desk and two screens. Morning: build a model of a creek and run a big storm through it to see what floods. Late morning: a call with a city about a subdivision that wants to drain into that creek. Afternoon: review a contractor's drawings, write a section of a flood study, fix a culvert size that does not work. Once or twice a month you are in boots, measuring a channel or watching a pipe go in the ground.
