A typical day

Hospital social worker: morning rounds with the medical team, then meetings with families about discharge, long-term care or money problems. Afternoon: phone calls to community agencies, charting, and one crisis you did not plan for. Child protection: home visits, court paperwork, and a phone that never stops. Caseloads of 20 to 30 families are normal.
