A typical shift

Start with a briefing and a check of overnight reports. Patrol by truck along the highway corridor and campgrounds, then on foot, ski or boat into the backcountry. Check fishing licences and permits, respond to a wildlife jam where drivers have stopped for a bear, deal with an illegal campfire during a fire ban, and write up the paperwork for every contact. Some shifts are an investigation into poaching that takes months. Nights, weekends and holidays are when parks are busiest, so that is when you work.
