Ways to shape the job

• Home-based palliative care

  Visiting patients where they live so they can die at home. Driving, phone calls, and a lot of family support.

• Pediatric palliative care

  Children with life-limiting illness. A small field, mostly at children's hospitals.

• Cancer centre consult service

  Pain and symptom control for patients still getting chemotherapy or radiation.

• MAID (medical assistance in dying)

  Some palliative doctors provide it, many do not. Either choice is respected, and the law lets you decline.
