Grades 11 and 12
Top marks across the board. Firms look at grades all the way back. Debate, case competitions and student business clubs help.

Bachelor's degree
4 years
Business (Ivey, Queen's, McGill, Rotman, Sauder) is the classic route, but engineering, economics, science and math graduates are hired too. Keep a high GPA (grade point average). Do case competitions.

Internships
Summers
A summer at a consulting firm, a bank or a big company. Firms fill many analyst jobs from their own interns.

Case interviews
Final year
Several rounds where you solve a business problem out loud. Practice for months. Offer rates at top firms are in the low single digits.

Analyst to consultant to manager
5 to 7 years to manager
Two to three years at each level, with an up-or-out review culture. Many earn the CMC (Certified Management Consultant) designation along the way.
