A typical day

Start with the work orders. A flow transmitter on a pipeline is reading high: pull it, check it against a calibrator, adjust or replace it, document everything. A control valve is sticking: strip and rebuild the actuator. An operator in the control room reports a temperature alarm that makes no sense: trace the wiring, check the sensor, check the program. Turnarounds mean weeks of calibrating hundreds of instruments before a plant restarts.
