A typical shift

Shipments arrive as electronic files from trucking companies and importers. For each one: check the invoice, classify the goods under the right tariff code, figure out the country of origin and whether a trade agreement lowers the duty, calculate duties and taxes, and file the release request with the CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) before the truck reaches the border. Phone calls with drivers, importers and border officers when something is missing. Later: audits, refund claims and helping clients fix past mistakes. Busy brokerages run around the clock.
