A typical day

Enter and match transactions: bank feeds, receipts, invoices, bills. Run payroll and remit deductions. File sales tax. Chase a customer who has not paid. Reconcile the bank account so every dollar is accounted for. At month-end, close the books and send the owner a report. At year-end, hand a clean set of books to the accountant. Self-employed bookkeepers do this for several clients a week and fit in some sales and admin.
