Qualifications that open doors

• Sawyer certification

  Running a chainsaw on the fireline is a separate qualification with levels, and sawyers are always in demand.

• Emergency medical technician

  A medical certification makes you valuable on any crew and is the gateway to helicopter and rescue work.

• Helitack and rappel crews

  Working from helicopters, landing or rappelling into remote fires. Competitive and highly sought after.

• Smokejumper

  Parachuting to fires in country nothing else can reach. A handful of bases nationwide and years of experience required first.

• Prescribed fire

  Deliberately burning land to reduce fuel. It is growing fast and it runs outside the summer season, which means year-round work.
