A typical day

Mostly a desk and two screens. Build or adjust a model of how water moves through a watershed, a pipe network or a channel, and check what a hundred-year storm does to it. Draft a report section, mark up drawings, sit in a coordination call with the city. Once every week or two you are out on site in boots, measuring a culvert or watching a contractor pour concrete. Deadlines come from permit dates and funding cycles, so the crunches are predictable months in advance.
