A typical day

Start with the messages that came in overnight, because something always did. Then visits: a family at home, a patient about to be discharged with nowhere to go, a student who stopped coming to school. Between them, phone calls to agencies that are also out of beds, out of funding or out of slots. Afternoons disappear into documentation, because nothing counts until it is written down. Some days you fix something real. Some days you spend eight hours and the answer is still no.
