A typical week

One service that everyone sees, and forty hours nobody does. Mornings go to study and writing the sermon or talk. Afternoons are visits: a hospital, a house, a family whose parent is dying. Evenings are meetings, the building committee, the youth group, a couple preparing to marry. Somewhere in there sit the budget, the boiler, the volunteer rota and the person who wants to talk about something they have never told anyone. Weddings and funerals take the weekend the rest of the world has off.
