Certifications that open doors

• NIGP-CPP (Certified Procurement Professional)

  From NIGP (the Institute for Public Procurement). The standard credential for city, county and state buyers.

• Public Procurement Associate designation

  An entry-level NIGP (Institute for Public Procurement) credential aimed at people new to the field.

• Federal acquisition certification

  Run by the Federal Acquisition Institute for contracting specialists and contracting officer's representatives. Required to hold federal contracting authority.

• CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management)

  A private sector credential covering sourcing, negotiation and supplier management.

• Specialization certificates

  Construction procurement and technology procurement certificates exist and are worth more than general ones.
