A typical day

Mostly reading, analysis and writing. A morning pulling a dataset apart to see whether a program reached the people it was meant to. An hour in a meeting where three agencies disagree about whose numbers are right. Then drafting: a two-page memo, a briefing note before a hearing, or a section of a longer report. Deadlines are set by legislative calendars and budget cycles, so the work comes in waves rather than evenly.
