A typical shift

In a hospital you start before dawn with a printed list of patients. Room to room with a cart: check the wristband against the order, find a vein, draw the right tubes in the right order, label at the bedside, move on. Twenty to forty patients before breakfast. Then walk-in draws, blood cultures, and whatever the wards call down for. In a clinic it is calmer: scheduled patients, one after another, plus paperwork and spinning and sorting samples for courier pickup.
