A typical day

In around 8am to a tray of glass slides from yesterday's biopsies and surgeries. You work through them at a microscope, dictating findings as you go: this is benign, this is cancer, the margin is clear, this needs a stain before you can be sure. Between cases you answer calls from surgeons who want an answer now, sign off on laboratory results, and do frozen sections where an operating room is holding while you read tissue in ten minutes.
