A typical week

Three or four clinic days and one or two operating days. Clinic is fast: thirty or more patients, eye pressures, scans, injections, and a lot of explaining. Operating days are the opposite, a list of cataract operations done back to back, each taking fifteen to twenty minutes under a microscope, with the patient awake and talking to you. Add emergency calls for trauma and sudden vision loss, paperwork about prior authorizations, and a morning a week for teaching if you are at a university.
