A typical day

Most of it is at a desk. You run a simulation of how the core behaves if a pump fails, compare the result against the limits in the plant's safety case, and write it up in a document that will be read line by line by a regulator. Mid-morning there is a meeting about a component that a supplier wants to substitute, and the answer depends on a standard from 1998. In the afternoon you go into the plant, in coveralls with a dose badge, to look at the thing you have been modeling. It is quieter than you expect.
