A typical shift

Report at 6am or 7am for a safety briefing and the day's plan. Lock out the machine so nobody can start it while you are inside it. Pull a coupling, change a bearing or a gearbox, then spend as long as it takes getting the shafts aligned, checking and rechecking with dial indicators or a laser. Rigging, chain falls, grinding, and a lot of crawling into places built for machines rather than people. On a maintenance job it is planned. On a breakdown the plant is losing money every minute you take.
