A typical day

Start on the floor: check what ran overnight, look at the parts that failed, talk to the operators. Then a test to set up, instruments to wire, data to pull off and tidy. Mid morning someone brings you a prototype that does not fit and wants to know why. Afternoon is measurement, a report, and marking up a drawing for the engineer who drew it. You are on your feet a good part of the day and the work is visible: something either runs at the end of it or it does not.
