A typical shift

Report at 6:45am and take handover on 20 to 30 residents, then straight into a medication pass that can take two hours. Dressings, blood sugars, vital signs, tube feeds, a family with questions, a doctor to call about a change in someone's breathing. Charting squeezed in between. Lunch often eaten standing up. Another medication pass in the afternoon, then handover to nights. Some days one resident goes downhill and the whole plan falls apart. That is the job.
