A typical shift

Shift change in the morning, check the apparatus and the medical bags, then station chores and training. Calls come in all day and all night: chest pain, a fall, a car wreck, an alarm that turns out to be burnt toast. A working fire is maybe a handful of times a month, and when it happens everything you trained for runs at once. You cook dinner with the crew, and you sleep in your clothes with the lights coming on at 3am.
