A typical day

Far more desk than television suggests. Mornings are case files, subpoenas, writing up interviews and coordinating with prosecutors. Afternoons might be an interview across town, a meeting with a source, or sitting in a car for four hours watching a door. Court testimony eats whole days. A few times a year it is an arrest at dawn or a search warrant, and those days are the ones people remember. The paperwork after them is the part nobody films.
