A typical day

Open the surveillance dashboard and check whether anything moved overnight. Clean a messy dataset that arrived from four hospitals in four different formats. Run the analysis, then spend longer than you expected working out whether the pattern is real or an artifact of how the data was collected. Write a short brief for people who do not read statistics. A weekly meeting with nurses and program staff. When there is an outbreak, all of that stops and you are on the phone interviewing cases instead.
