A typical day

In a hospital you start by screening who was admitted overnight and who has lost weight or stopped eating. Then rounds on the wards: reading charts, checking lab values, calculating tube feeding rates, sitting on the end of a bed explaining what a kidney diet actually means. Afternoon is notes, meetings with doctors and nurses, and discharge plans that the family can follow at home. In community work the day is outpatient appointments, group classes and program paperwork.
