A typical day
Most of it is building a case. You chase leads, go through phone and money records, meet sources and write the report that a prosecutor will rely on. Some days you sit for hours watching a house. Other days you brief senior officials or other police forces on what you have found. When a case is ready there are search warrants, seizures and arrests, often early in the morning. Then come the long days in court or in front of a grand jury, where your reports get picked apart.
