A typical day

In a hospital you start with a list of patients who are supposed to go home today and a set of reasons why none of them can. Morning rounds with the medical team, then calls: a rehab facility with one open bed, an insurance reviewer who wants more documentation, a daughter in another state who did not know her father was admitted. You arrange transport, oxygen and a follow-up appointment. Then you document all of it. Two more admissions arrive while you are typing.
