  Regional heats feed the United States Barista Championship, and its winner goes to the world final. Competitors get hired.

• Roasting

  The production side of coffee. Better paid, quieter, and closer to normal hours.

• Wholesale and training

  Roasters employ people to install machines and train cafe staff. It pays like a technical job, because it is one.
