Credentials that raise your pay

• Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor

  The next step up from the entry credential. It requires a degree and more supervised hours.

• Clinical supervisor credential

  Lets you sign off other people's supervised hours, which is a role every agency needs.

• Licensed professional counselor or clinical social worker

  A master's level state license. This is the ceiling lifter for pay and for private practice.

• Co-occurring disorders

  Training in treating mental illness and addiction together, which is most of the caseload in reality.

• Medication assisted treatment knowledge

  Methadone and buprenorphine programs are a large and growing part of the field.
