A typical shift

You take over a board with 30 or 50 trucks on it and find out what broke overnight. Then you assign loads, confirm pickup and delivery appointments, and tell drivers where they are going next. The rest of the day is exceptions: a driver out of legal hours, a customer that will not unload, a breakdown outside Thunder Bay, a border delay. You are on the phone and in the dispatch system almost continuously. Freight does not stop at 5pm, so dispatch desks run evenings, nights and weekends.
