A typical day

A hospital psychiatrist rounds on an inpatient unit in the morning, sees new patients in the emergency department, and does consults for other doctors. An outpatient psychiatrist sees 8 to 15 people a day, 20 to 60 minutes each, many by video. Assessments involve a lot of listening, then a plan: medication, therapy, or both. Notes and forms fill the gaps.
