A typical shift

Take over from the outgoing shift and read the log. Walk the plant: boilers, turbines, pumps, chillers, water treatment. Record pressures and temperatures, check for leaks and vibration, test the water chemistry. Adjust loads as the building or process demands change. Handle alarms, issue permits for contractors, do small repairs. Sit in a control room watching screens for stretches, then move fast when something trips. Twelve hours later, hand it off and write the log.
