A typical day

In fire season you are up at 6am, walk around the machine, then sit on standby at a fire base. When the call comes you may fly for hours with a bucket, refuelling from trucks on gravel roads. Survey work means long straight lines over the same ground. Tour work means the same short route all day. Between flights there is paperwork, fuel and cleaning. Many contracts run 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off.
