The grain elevator that fell over

In 1913 a brand-new grain elevator in Transcona, Manitoba tipped about 27 degrees when the clay under it gave way. Engineers dug under the high side and jacked it back upright, and it worked for more than a century. It is a case study in every soil mechanics course.
