A typical day

Start at the office around 8am with a route of inspections: a restaurant, an apartment building, a warehouse. You check exits, alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers and fire safety plans, then write orders for anything that fails. Afternoons are reports, follow-up visits and phone calls with owners who disagree. Some weeks you are in court or at a fire scene helping with an investigation.
